Conjoined twin separation continues to be an exciting yet challenging endeavour. Mark Shafarenko MD @markshafarenko and Ronald Zuker from the University of Toronto Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery @uoftprs reviewed the outcomes of conjoined twin separation at their institution over 30 years. They demonstrated a high survival rate of 81%, as well as a number of firsts in the conjoined twin population, such as the use of tissue expansion. The authors also outline a series of seven important lessons to aid in the separation of conjoined twins.
