Increasing evidence demonstrates an interplay between neoangiogenesis and immune cells. Meiwand Bedar and his co-authors investigated the immune response and revascularization of acellular nerve allografts (ANA) after combined stem cell delivery and surgical angiogenesis in a rat sciatic nerve defect model using immune cell phenotyping and microcomputed tomography. He and his co-authors found early favorable immune responses and improved vascularity at longer follow-up in ANAs treated with surgical angiogenesis with or without stem cell delivery.
