Geographical access to a plastic surgeon has a significant impact on whether or not a woman undergoes breast reconstruction following mastectomy. In this study, Max Silverstein and his co-authors investigated the relationship between travel time to their medical center and outcomes of postmastectomy breast reconstruction. They found that living > 1 hour from the surgical center was an independent risk factor for delays in post-op follow-up, less frequent clinic visits, and fewer revision procedures overall. Max L.
