Description: The Curtis National Hand Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital is looking for a Research Scholar to join our research team! The person chosen for this position will gain substantial experience in various methods of research across our current portfolio of health services, data/analytic, biomechanical, and animal/basic science work. This person will broaden their experience with journal authorship and assist in competing for additional funding by supporting grant writing and funding applications. Beyond research responsibilities, the research scholar will have opportunities to learn about hand surgery and related fields while also contributing to quality improvement and evaluation of our trauma system and care delivery systems more broadly. Please note that in this position the scholar will have contact and interaction with patients for research purposes only; there are no direct clinical care opportunities.
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the CNHC Research Director, the scholar will be actively involved in the design and execution of multiple research studies across health services, basic science, and/or biomechanical (varies per scholar interest). The scholar will be asked to assist in preparing manuscripts for all research work as well as participated in grant writing. The scholar will work closely with students, residents, and clinical fellows on ongoing research projects while gaining experience leading others and working with others on collaborative efforts. Although the scholar will not have any clinical care-related contact with patients, they will become a champion in quality improvement and safety initiatives designed to improve management of our patients.
Preferred Qualifications: Healthcare/Medical background required. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with advanced degrees (MD, DO, PhD) or focused master's degrees (MS, MPH), but degree candidates are eligible as well. A strong track record of research, journal article writing, and/or grant writing is helpful.

This position is on-site at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and not eligible for remote work.
This position is funded with salary and benefits as part of the hiring package.
Start Date: July 1, 2023
Term: 2yr preferred with 1yr option per Research Director approval.
