|Description:||The Transgender Health Research Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender Health (CTH) is a one year mentored research training program designed for medical students with interest in transgender health, hormone therapy, gender affirmation surgery, plastic/reconstructive surgery, craniomaxillofacial surgery, and urologic surgery disciplines. Our research goals center about addressing critical knowledge gaps in medical and surgical topics regarding transgender care, with the aim of impacting access to care, improving our understanding of medical and surgical gender affirmation outcomes, and developing best practices.
The fellow will work closely with surgeons and affiliate faculty of the CTH to organize and direct all research efforts within the center. Responsibilities will include: protocol design, IRB submissions, subject recruitment and consenting for prospective studies, data collection, statistical analysis, leading bi-monthly research meetings, and manuscript writing.
The fellow has an opportunity to attend selected national meetings where the educational program content directly relates to transgender health and gender affirmation surgery, and he/she in expected to be an active participant in these meetings. The fellow is encouraged to submit papers for publications based on these presentations, as the first or primary author. Fellows will have ample opportunity to interface with faculty within the Johns Hopkins Plastic Surgery Department and attend departmental grand rounds.
