Current Research Interests:

Why did you join PSRC?
Ive been involved in plastic surgery research for about a decade, and our new lab director encouraged me to get involved.

How did you get involved in plastic surgery research?

As a graduate student I was working on stretching fibroblasts for wound healing, and I was simultaneously working on colorectal cancer models. The department of Plastic Surgery at Wake Forest offered me a post-doctoral position where I could continue my work on cancer independently, while helping the team develop new materials for cleft palate closure, peripheral nerve repair, spongers to work with negative pressure systems, and further exploration into the creation of novel polymeric heat-generating nanoparticles.

What advice would you give to PhDs interested in plastic surgery?

There are a lot of opportunities in developing biomaterials, and that is really my passion. The more you understand about materials development, from a PhD perspective, the more opportunities you have to develop something new that can be translated to clinic.
