Dr. Janina Kueper
Dr. Janina Kueper is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow with Shriners Hospital for Children/Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Who are you? My name is Janina! I'm a 26-year-old MD, currently turned stem cell scientist.

Where are you from? My family has its roots in Germany but I grew up all over the world and went to medical school in Berlin.

What are you doing? I'm a postdoctoral research fellow with Shriners Hospital for Children/Masachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School at the Liao Lab in Boston.

What do you want to be doing ultimately? My dream is to work as a surgeon-scientist at an academic center, combining different approaches from both the natural and the social sciences to improve patients' lives.

What's your research? I am trying to understand how the human face forms! I do this by looking at individuals who's face has not formed the way it usually does. By making stem cells, I attempt to retrace the arc of development, seeing where something went awry-and if there's anything we might do for families and individuals affected in the future. That aside, I am actively exploring my professinal interests in medical anthropology, tissue engineering, global surgery, and transhumanism.

Anything else you would like to share? As an avid professional diver and freediver, there's always a chance you might find me teaching or exploring underwater.
