Description: The Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Cottler. The laboratory supports the research efforts of the current faculty and residents and engages in a variety of clinical, applied, and basic science projects in the areas of regenerative medicine, biomaterials, and wound healing. This position will be responsible for assisting in animal experiments, conducting cell and tissue culture, experimental molecular and genetic assays, conducting basic mechanical testing, assisting in maintaining lab inventory and ordering lab supplies, maintaining lab equipment, and assisting and some training of residents, medical students, and undergraduate students. Additionally, the incumbent will assist PI with manuscript and grant submissions as well as maintaining clinical databases.

A Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, life sciences or a related field is required by date of hire. At least one year of experience working in a laboratory setting is required, and experience gained during college may be substituted for work experience. Require skills include, being familiar with animal surgery, cell culture, and have basic molecular and genetic assay and microscope skills and have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
